Lancaster to Yorktown

Sep 05 2013

Today, Senator Mark Warner had the opportunity to connect with community leaders and residents in and around the Northern Neck and the Middle Peninsula.

In a tourism roundtable, Senator Warner was able to engage with leaders about expanding outdoor tourism in the area including expanding such activities as biking and kayaking. While discussing the future of tourism in Virginia, Senator Warner said, “ Localities in Virginia all stand to gain from coordinated marketing to promote outdoor tourism.”

At a town hall at the Rappahannock Community College, Sen. Warner took great questions from community leaders about health care implementation, the economy, and affordable housing.

Later, Sen. Warner made his way to Yorktown, VA where he joined a “hard hat tour”  to see the progress on construction at the American Revolution Museum, planned for completion by late 2016. It will replace the Yorktown Victory Center with an 80,000-square-foot structure that will encompass galleries, classrooms and visitor amenities, and reorganization of the 22-acre site.

As he thanked museusm employees, Sen. Warner remarked, “The history of Virginia is rich and vibrant. This museum serves as another monument to our Founders and our country.”

This weekend, Sen. Warner will meet with young professionals from across the Commonwealth at Norfolk State University as he hosts the third annual Young Professionals Summit. This year’s summit will feature remarks by  the Senator, keynote speaker Yancey Strickler, Co-Founder of Kickstarter and a native Virginian, and closing remarks from Zoë Romano, visionary athlete and writer at Norfolk State University.
