Press Releases

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) released the following statement today upon the announcement that the leaders of the Senate Banking Committee have reached an agreement on a bipartisan housing finance reform proposal that builds upon The Housing Finance Reform and Taxpayer Protection Act (S. 1217), introduced by Sen. Warner and Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) in June 2013. The Warner-Corker legislation is cosponsored by a bipartisan group of 10  members of the Banking Committee.

"I applaud Chairman Johnson and Ranking Member Crapo for all the work that went into this agreement.  This shows that a bipartisan approach is the best way to get something this important and this complicated across the finish line,” Sen. Warner said. “Responsible reform of the housing finance system will strengthen the economic recovery, protect taxpayers and preserve the availability of affordable mortgages for Virginia families.  I look forward to continued work with my partner Sen. Bob Corker, our eight bipartisan cosponsors and other members of the Committee on this important legislation.”

In addition to Sens. Warner and Corker, S. 1217 is currently cosponsored by Senators Mike Johanns (R-NE), Jon Tester (D-MT), Dean Heller (R-NV), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Kay Hagan (D-NC), Mark Kirk (R-IL), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), and Mark Begich (D-AK).
