“I’ve been involved in politics and government for 20 years, and I can’t think of a more frustrating issue that I’ve been involved with than this issue with drywall,” Senator Warner said at a Senate hearing on contaminated drywall this morning. Senator Warner, with Florida Senator Bill Nelson had called for the hearing today before the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Insurance.
More than 1,000 Virginia AARP members joined Senator Warner on a telephone town hall Monday night for a conversation about deficits, Social Security and Medicare. The Senator offered an update on his efforts to find bipartisan solutions and answered several questions during the call.
Yesterday afternoon, Senator Warner, U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, and Congressman John Sarbanes (D-MD) announced the launch of the National Foundation on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition and honored its initial board of directors. The Foundation, established through legislation written by Sen. Warner, allows for corporate and individual contributions to help support the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, and was signed into law by the President last December.

U.S. Sen. Warner today called on Ohio-based K-V Pharmaceutical to voluntarily roll-back its dramatic increase in the price of a drug used to prevent premature labor for women in high-risk pregnancies. The prenatal progesterone treatment, which had been priced between $10 and $20 per weekly injection when compounded and dispensed by pharmacies, now will be sold under the brand name Makena at a cost of $1,500 per week.
The Consumer Public Safety Commission and Department of Housing and Urban Development today released new remediation guidance for families whose homes were damaged by toxic Chinese drywall. The new protocols will better help homeowners to correctly identify problem drywall and provide more comprehensive remediation for any potential health and safety issues associated with the problem drywall.
