Wall Street Journal: A Bipartisan Plan for Job Creation
By Senators JERRY MORAN And MARK WARNER
Feb 07 2012
In his State of the Union Address, President Obama called on Congress to pass an agenda that helps start-ups and small businesses succeed. We have already introduced a plan that shares his goals. It's called the Startup Act. Research conducted by the Kauffman Foundation and others has consistently shown that companies less than five years old accounted for nearly all net job creation in our economy over the past three decades.
Connecting with Tweeps

It’s not easy limiting a politician to answers of 140 characters or less, so we had a lot of fun today helping Senator Warner conduct his first Twitter Town Hall. As the co-founder of Nextel and a former venture capitalist, the Senator appreciates the role of new technology and he’s a big fan of social media.
Backlog plagues fed government's pension system
Feb 02 2012
Backlogs and delays continue to plague the federal government's pension system. Retirees wait an average of five months to receive their first full pension check -- but delays of a year or more are common. The Office of Personnel Management says it has plan to hire more people to process a backlog of 64,000 paper records, but it could take 18 months or more to solve the problem.
A surprise in the Senator's mailbag.
Jan 03 2012
We recently received a pleasant surprise in Senator Warner’s incoming mail: a bunch of handwritten thank you notes from more than a dozen students at William Monroe Middle School in Greene County. The students visited the U.S. Capitol on National History Day last fall with their librarian and teacher, Mary Craig.
A memorial fund has been established to support the needs of the family of Deriek Crouse, the Virginia Tech Police officer who was fatally shot Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011. Those wishing to contribute can mail checks, payable to “Deriek Crouse Memorial Fund,” to the address below:
Bipartisan VA delegation support FEMA appeal
Oct 28 2011
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has appealed the the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s denial of disaster assistance for individuals in Louisa County affected by the historic 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Aug. 23. Senator Warner helped coordinate a bipartisan letter sent to FEMA from Virginia’s full congressional delegation in support of the appeal.
Academy Day 2011
Apr 04 2011
This past Saturday, our office had the honor of hosting Academy Day 2011 at Albemarle High School, just outside Charlottesville, VA. The day began with over 300 high school and middle school students and their families arriving to acquire information about the application process to our nation’s service academies, as well as information on alternative options to the service academies.
A Great Day in Roanoke and Southwest
Mar 14 2011
This past Saturday, the Senator was able to get down to Roanoke and Southwest Virginia for a full-day of events. The day began in Roanoke, where the Senator walked (ok, actually ran) in the Saint Patrick’s Parade. The jog through downtown allowed the Senator to meet and shake hands with the thousands in attendance that were decked out in green, and maroon and orange -- surely a hold-over from a night of celebrating a Virginia Tech win in the ACC tournament.
Kissing babies and visiting BTEC
Feb 14 2011
Senator Warner recently had a chance to visit Botetourt County. The Roanoke Times' Botetourt View blog did a great write-up of his visit and took lots of photos! (Yes, the Senator even kissed a baby.)
This morning, Senator Warner visited Jane Foy and Rick Daniels at WINA's Morning News in Charlottesville. The Senator talked about everything from the need to get moving on deficit reduction, to transportation funding, to Jim Webb's decision to retire from the Senate.
