Senators Warner and Kaine welcomed hundreds of Virginia’s Girl and Boy Scout Troops of America this week. The scouts visited Washington, D.C. to learn more about the federal government and American history.

Senator Warner applauded the scouts for their community service efforts and stressed the how valuable their work is to the Commonwealth.

“When you see a problem, you can work to solve it at all levels of government, but the work you folks do at the community level is so important,” Senator Warner said. “That’s what being a Scout is all about, being a good citizen by serving your community.”

In speaking with Girl Scout leaders, Senator Warner said, “having raised three girls of my own with my wife Lisa, I am so grateful for the work you all do to shape strong young women to be our future leaders of America.”

Some of the young Boy Scouts eagerly asked the Senators about their own experiences as Boys Scouts. Both Senators laughed about the badges they were unable to obtain, but were grateful for their exposure to importance of participating in citizenship.

During their trip, the troops toured both the Capitol Building and the White House. They are eager to continue to learn about the roles of both national and state government as well as how they can continue to make a difference in their own communities.
