WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine announced that the University of Virginia (UVA) will receive $2,782,938 in funding to support research on infectious diseases and cancer, as well as promote nursing research.

“We are excited that one of the Commonwealth’s leading research universities will receive funding to support breakthrough discoveries on some of the world’s most devastating diseases, as well as help train the next generation of medical professionals,” said Warner and Kaine.

The $2,782,938 in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grants will be awarded by the following institutes:

·       National Cancer Institute awarded $1,025,992;

·       National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded $672,063;

·       National Institute of Nursing Research awarded $491,732;

·       National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases awarded $392,838;

·       National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering awarded $200,313.
