More than 40 students from Ms. Rachelle Hawkins-Wesson’s government class at Brunswick High School visited Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
The key to economic development in Southside Virginia is a continuing focus on education and workforce training, according to U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and state Sen. Bill Stanley.
Senator Warner spent most of Thursday traveling in Southside Virginia. Senator Warner stopped in South Boston and Richmond later on Thursday before heading to Hampton Roads for Friday.

Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine announced today that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and the New College Foundation a $500,000 grant to expand the New College Institute (NCI) in Martinsville.
At his Washington office, Sen. Warner met two young Virginians each doing their own part to serve our Commonwealth and country.
U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va) stopped at South Boston’s ABB Inc. plant Friday morning to tour the manufacturing facilities before holding an employee town hall meeting that was open to the public.

Today Sen. Warner flew down to Southside Virginia to make stops in South Boston and Danville, where he met with constituents, toured local industry, and spoke about his work in Congress to promote small and startup businesses.

This morning Sen. Warner met with about 35 Virginians from Danville, Martinsville, and Pittsylvania Counties on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. These young men and women are participants in the Project Discovery college-access preparatory program, which helps potential first generation college attendees plan for their future while they’re still in high school.

Yesterday Senator Warner grabbed a handful of letters and emails from constituents, deciding to call some of those Virginians personally to listen to their concerns and express that he shared their frustration with Congress, but would continue to work to replace these broad cuts with a smarter bipartisan proposal.
