Sen. Warner Helps Lead Effort to End "Secret Holds" on Legislation or Nominees

~ Asks for an end to practice of blocking nominees without explanation ~

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Mark Warner (D-VA), Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) organized a group of 18 other senators today in signing a letter to Senate leadership that seeks to change the way the Senate does business by putting an end to rules that allow members to secretly block legislation and nominations.
Washington, DC —- Senators Jim Webb (D-VA) and Mark Warner (D-VA) today recommended John A. Gibney of Richmond for the judicial vacancy that exists in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The Senators made their recommendation in a letter Wednesday to President Barack Obama. Mr. Gibney, a partner in the Richmond law firm Thompson-McMullan since 2003, has practiced law for more than three decades in state and federal courts in the Commonwealth.

Washington, DC - U.S. Senators Jim Webb and Mark R. Warner today applauded President Obama’s nomination of Virginia Supreme Court Justice Barbara Keenan to serve as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Recommended by Senators Webb and Warner on June 2, 2009, Keenan would be the first female judge from Virginia to serve on the federal appeals court.
