Funding for rural development
May 21 2009
Earlier this week, Senator Warner announced that the Department of Agriculture will release $1.2 million from the stimulus package to provide grants or loans to 31 localities and non-profit organizations to fund community facilities and emergency responder projects in Virginia.
The funding, which will be provided through USDA Rural Development Community Facilities program, will help finance and develop facilities for public use in rural areas including childcare centers, hospitals, medical clinics, assisted living facilities, fire and rescue stations, police stations, community centers, public buildings and transportation.
Senator Warner said:
"We cannot leave any region of our Commonwealth or country behind as we make these down-payments on some long-neglected projects. These investments will help create jobs and stimulate economic activity in many of our rural communities."
