Senator Warner received a letter from U.S. Secretary of the Department of Interior Ken Salazer today informing us that he will dispatch a National Park Service team to the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford to make a preliminary assessment of whether the site might be eligible for inclusion in the National Park Service system.
Step toward saving the D-Day Memorial

Earlier this year, the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford announced that it did not have enough money to sustain operations through the end of the year. Since then, Virginia's congressional delegation, led by Senator Warner, has made several attempts to help keep the memorial open.

WASHINGTON — A busload of Bedford residents was swallowed up in a crowd of military people and politicians who came out Tuesday evening to see a movie about the town that sent a group of D-Day heroes off to war.

The Department of Homeland Security announced today that Roanoke Regional Airport will receive two new pieces of security equipment worth $772,125, purchased through funds provided to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) by the economic recovery package.
