Senator Warner released the following statement today following Monday’s fatal crash of two Washington Metrorail trains. Senator Warner serves on the Commerce Committee, which has oversight authority over the National Transportation Safety Board.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and the injuries, and my thoughts go out to the individuals and families who were affected by this tragic accident.

"Our primary concern now is with the rescue, recovery and care of those who were on the train, and with the immediate safety of those in the region who depend on Metro. We should let the NTSB professionals to do their jobs so we can see if there's anything we can learn from this tragedy that will promote passenger safety."
