"Federal approval of this vitally important Metrorail extension to Dulles will provide enormous benefits to our region's commuters and visitors.

I first became involved in this important project while serving as a member of the Commonwealth Transportation Board more than 15 years ago, and we also worked to advance the progress of Dulles rail when I served as Governor.

Today's announcement is a testimony to the steady, bipartisan work of many members of Virginia's congressional delegation over several years, and I applaud Governor Tim Kaine's efforts to work cooperatively with the U.S. Transportation Department, METRO, and the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority to resolve recent issues that threatened this project.

I am committed to work with my partners in Congress to make sure this project remains on track to provide tremendous benefits to the residents of the entire National Capital Region."
