Clean Water in India: Drinking to Health

Around the world, more than two-billion people are at serious health risks every day due to the lack of clean drinking water, and many of those people live in India. Senator Warner was on-hand today as the 16,000 inhabitants of the poor Indian village of Kompally got access to reliable, safe drinking water for the first time.

Senator Warner, co-chair of the Senate’s India Caucus, will lead a five-member congressional delegation on a visit to India between Jan. 7 and Jan. 14. The delegation will meet with top government and business leaders in New Dehli, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Kolkata, exploring opportunities to expand business, trade, defense and cultural relationships between the two countries.
The future of the U.S.-India partnership

Senator Warner spoke at the Brookings Institute regarding the future of the U.S.-India partnership earlier this week. Senator Warner, as co-chair of the Senate India Caucus, has pushed for a stronger relationship between “the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy.”
Senator Warner, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, issued the following statement on the death of Osama bin Laden: “I want to commend our military and intelligence professionals for the coordinated and painstaking work that was responsible for tracking down Osama bin Laden.
Celebrating India

This morning Senator Warner hosted a “Commonwealth Coffee” event for members of Virginia’s Indian-American community. Today’s event was held to honor Republic Day, which marks India’s adoption of a democratic constitution 62 years ago.
Yesterday, Senator Warner announced that he will join Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) as a co-chair of the Senate India Caucus in January. Senator Warner will take the place of Senator Chris Dodd, who is retiring at the end of the year.
