WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $17,978,616 in federal grant funding for Head Start programs throughout Virginia.
“We know early childhood education plays a critical role in our education system,” the Senators said. “Today’s funding will benefit our communities, our economy and our children’s future.”
Both as Governors and Senators, Warner and Kaine have advocated for investments in early childhood education. Most recently, they supported an increase in Head Start funding in the budget passed in December 2015.
The following localities and organizations will receive funding:
- Hampton Roads Community Action Program will receive $7,151,979;
- Kids Central in Norton will receive $3,759,995;
- New River Community Action will receive $2,710,162;
- Pittsylvania County Community Action will receive $1,933,85;
- Chesterfield County Public Schools will receive $1,351,715;
- Augusta County School Board will receive $1,070,911.
