WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released the following statement in response to reports of terrorist attacks on the subway and airport in Brussels:

"Our hearts go out to the people of Belgium, especially the innocent victims going about their daily business. 

"The news is still preliminary, but these horrendous acts demonstrate the severity of the terrorist threat. 

"As we have seen in recent attacks across Belgium, the United States, France, the Middle East, Africa, and worldwide, the civilized nations of the world must unite against the common scourge of terrorism. "
