Warner Statement on Trade Legislation
May 14 2015
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) released a statement on his vote to advance the bipartisan fast-track Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) legislation:
“Trade is key to Virginia’s economy, with exports from Virginia companies totaling more than $19 billion in goods last year. A trade deal will open additional markets for Virginia farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses, creating jobs and leveling the playing field in our increasingly global economy. We must also ensure that America plays a role in setting and enforcing labor, environmental and human rights standards with our trading partners, and that workers have the opportunity to learn job skills that will help them compete in the 21st-century economy.”
