Senator Warner told members of the Southern States Energy Board that the region should become more aggressive in working together to pursue a “portfolio” approach to energy resources. The Board, chaired by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, met in Alexandria yesterday. Governors from Mississippi and Alabama also attended, as well as Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).
Senator Warner recently introduced legislation with Senator Jim Webb to allow safe and responsible energy resource development off of the Virginia’s coast, including wind, oil, and natural gas.
“I would argue that there will be more jobs and wealth created worldwide in the energy sector over the next 25 years than any other sector,” Senator Warner said to WAMU reporter Jonathan Wilson. “And I don’t believe our country is truly in the game.”
