Three town halls before lunch

As part of the October congressional recess, Senator Warner has hosted a series of town halls and community meetings – including three on Monday in Northern Virginia.
“Virginia's international exports are on the rise, but even greater opportunities exist to increase jobs and boost industry by connecting more businesses in the commonwealth to an expanding global market,” the Richmond Times-Dispatch said, describing the objective of Senator Warner’s successful conference on exporting this Monday.
Virginia has been awarded more than $26 million for three projects that will expand broadband access in rural areas. These projects will create at least 200 jobs in the near term, and build-out a high-speed Internet platform for additional economic activity in the future.
Senator Warner sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski yesterday asking the FCC to collaborate with Internet service providers and content providers to maintain reasonable consumer access to high-value Internet content.
Meeting with the President of Peru

Senator Warner met today with President Alan Garcia of Peru as part of a weeklong trip that also included stops in Colombia and Ecuador. Senator Warner is traveling with Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd.

Senator Warner met with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe in Bogota on Tuesday, the first day of his week-long trip that also will include visits to the South American countries of Ecuador and Peru.
The Department of Commerce announced this week that a Virginia company will receive $19 million in stimulus funding to bring high-speed internet services to 17 jurisdictions across Southside.
