Senator Warner, co-chair of the Senate’s India Caucus, will lead a five-member congressional delegation on a visit to India between Jan. 7 and Jan. 14. The delegation will meet with top government and business leaders in New Dehli, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Kolkata, exploring opportunities to expand business, trade, defense and cultural relationships between the two countries.

We recently received a pleasant surprise in Senator Warner’s incoming mail: a bunch of handwritten thank you notes from more than a dozen students at William Monroe Middle School in Greene County. The students visited the U.S. Capitol on National History Day last fall with their librarian and teacher, Mary Craig.

Army details Arlington gravesite errors

The Army released a report today on discrepancies and misplaced headstones at Arlington National Cemetery after an almost year-long study of management issues at the cemetery. The review found that nearly one-fourth – or 64,000 - of the 260,000 grave markers at Arlington may need to be replaced or fixed.

Congress has moved to limit parking at the controversial Mark Center office complex in Alexandria, forcing the Army to reevaluate the traffic impact as it transfers 6,400 workers to the region’s most congested corridor. The parking cap was included in a defense appropriation bill moving toward final passage Friday.

We don’t see enough bipartisan cooperation on Capitol Hill, but 58 members of the 100-member Senate teamed-up this week for one thing that didn’t involve a knock-down, drag-out fight: a Christmas gift exchange. The price limit was $10, and senators gathered to meet their “Secret Santa” last night.

Senator Warner spoke to almost 7,500 school teachers from across the Commonwealth during an hour-long telephone town hall on Monday night. The conversation ranged from proposed changes to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to the impact of deficit reduction on federal education funding.
