Senator Warner announced this morning that the Department of Defense will invest an additional $28 million from the economic recovery package for 34 Virginia projects to repair U.S. Army facilities at Fort A.P. Hill, Fort Eustis, Fort Lee, Fort Belvoir and Fort Myer.
Last month, we announced the allocation of $330 million in stimulus funding for construction and restoration of Virginia military facilities. This represented 80 percent of the funding allocated for military projects; today’s announcement accounts for the remaining 20 percent of that funding.
The projects are designed to repair aging infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, improve our nation’s military capability, and create jobs for Virginians. These improvements to military installations include upgrades to hospitals, child development centers, and housing for troops and their families.
Senator Warner said:
"Perhaps more importantly, these projects will improve working conditions and quality-of-life issues for the men and women of the Army and their families."
