Warner on Warner
Mar 16 2013
Senator Warner attended Saturday's keel-laying ceremony at Huntington-Ingalls New News Shipbuilding to celebrate a key milestone in the construction of the Navy's newest fast-attack submarine. The sub will bear the name of his Senate predecessor, John Warner.
Retired Senator John Warner, a former Navy and Marine veteran, Secretary of the Navy and a 30-year veteran of the Senate, where he served as chairman of the Senate's Armed Services Committee, spoke at the traditional keel-laying ceremony along with his wife, the ship's official sponsor, Jeanne Warner. The initials of John and Jeanne Warner were welded onto a metal plate that will be placed on the submarine.
