Senator Warner regularly hosts ‘Commonwealth Coffees’ at his Washington, D.C. office to give an opportunity for Virginians to informally meet with him and his key legislative staff over coffee and doughnuts. Today, members of Virginia’s Asian-Pacific community were invited to stop by Capitol Hill.
“We’re hosting this event to acknowledge the tremendous contribution that our Asian-American community has made to Virginia,” Senator Warner told attendees of Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and Indian heritage, among other backgrounds. “The business owners, federal workers, students, and religious leaders that are here today are a great representation of this diverse and growing community, and I’m happy to welcome you to our offices here in Washington.”
Senator Warner, the co-chair of the Senate’s bipartisan India Caucus, co-sponsored a resolution earlier this month designating May 2013 as Asian/Pacific American heritage month – an opportunity to celebrate the community’s long and rich history of achievement here in the United States.
