Senator Warner received a letter from U.S. Secretary of the Department of Interior Ken Salazer today informing us that he will dispatch a National Park Service team to the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford to make a preliminary assessment of whether the site might be eligible for inclusion in the National Park Service system.

Earlier this year, the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford announced that it did not have enough money to sustain operations through the end of the year. Since then, Virginia's congressional delegation, led by Senator Warner, has made several attempts to help keep the memorial open.

Senator Warner introduced legislation yesterday that would authorize the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to study whether the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia, can be added to the U.S. National Park System.
