Senator Warner spoke to VCU students this morning in Richmond about the need to tackle our debt and deficit crisis in order to move on to encouraging job creation, an issue all-too-familiar to college students these days.

The Senator delivered a quick update from Washington, telling the students about his efforts on the "Gang of Six" to present a comprehensive, balanced deficit reduction plan. "If the fat lady ain't singing yet on the possibility of a supercommittee deal, she's at least warming up," Senator Warner said. "We can't just punt on this issue. It won't get any easier in the future."

Senator Warner also spoke about the need for deficit reduction in order to stimulate job growth. "Back when Congress punted on the continuing resolution, it created problems for the markets. The single most important thing we can do that would give our markets some stability back and allow us to move forward as a country is tackle this deficit crisis," Senator Warner said.

Finally, the Senator said, while we face a lot of tough problems as a country, he would never bet against the USA being able to find solutions. "I would never sell this country short," the Senator said.
