Priorities
Today the A Billion + Change organization, of which Sen. Warner serves as an honorary co-chair, celebrated a defining milestone – the largest commitment of pro bono service in history. The organization, which helps fund skill-based volunteer work to help address community priorities here in America and across the world, announced that more than 500 companies across the country have committed over $2 billion worth of volunteer services.
Sen. Warner has been involved with A Billion + Change since 2008. He congratulated the organization on this important benchmark, but emphasized that work remains to be done.
“When I agreed to serve as Honorary Chairman,” said Sen. Warner, “it was with the goal of connecting America’s nonprofits to the private sector support that they need. As a businessman, I knew that talented individuals who wanted to make a difference stood just behind the front door of every company in America.”
“So I could not be prouder,” he continued, “of the response that we’ve received from the private sector. From Main Street to Wall Street, businesses have come together to get behind using pro bono service to unite and change individuals, businesses, and communities. But although we’ve reached this amazing milestone, our work to transform business culture in America is just beginning.”
A Billion + Change reported today that 50% of pledges came from small businesses, 3% from mid-size, and 47% from large companies. The organization emphasized that at a time when nonprofits are struggling to grapple with increasingly complex challenges with fewer financial resources, this commitment from such diverse parts of the business community could make a significant difference for our country moving forward.
