As the co-founder of Nextel and a former venture capitalist, the Senator appreciates the role of new technology and he’s a big fan of social media.
Backlog plagues fed government's pension system

Backlogs and delays continue to plague the federal government's pension system. Retirees wait an average of five months to receive their first full pension check -- but delays of a year or more are common. The Office of Personnel Management says it has plan to hire more people to process a backlog of 64,000 paper records, but it could take 18 months or more to solve the problem.

Five weeks after demanding results from the Navy over inadequate conditions in military housing, Senator Warner returned to Hampton Roads today to examine repairs made to Lincoln Military Housing properties that affected by mold and water damage.

Senator Warner and Old Dominion University hosted Saturday’s second-annual Virginia Women’s Conference, which welcomed about 750 women to Norfolk. “Look, I have an amazing wife and three almost perfect daughters,” Senator Warner said Saturday in his remarks to open the conference. “I know who really runs the show.”

Fort Monroe to become National Monument

President Obama is expected to designate Hampton’s Fort Monroe a unit of the National Park Service tomorrow afternoon. Senator Warner and the region’s bipartisan congressional delegation have encouraged the President to use his authority under the Antiquities Act to preserve the Fort, which the Army transferred to Virginia last month.
