On the Road in NoVA

A couple Fridays ago, Senator Warner spent a great day on the road in Northern Virginia, visiting Arlington, Herndon and McLean for a series of town halls and other meetings. Senator Warner took to the Senate floor today to honor Keith Prewitt's work as Deputy Director of the United States Secret Service. Mr. Prewitt is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Secret Service, including its 6,700 employees and a budget of about $1.5 billion.
A combined 1,200 military personnel and veterans attended two job fairs our office co-hosted in the past week with military.com. About 500 people attended the Job Expo in Norfolk last Thursday, and more than 700 people attended yesterday’s job fair in Woodbridge.
Senator Warner says he is angry and embarrassed that we’re facing a possible government shutdown. “What does that say to the men and women of our military who are engaged in military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and over Libya?"
Senator Warner talked to Jane Watrel of WRC this afternoon regarding a potential government shutdown and its possible effect on Virginia's 140,000 federal workers. "Beyond the fact of what effect it would have on literally millions of peoples lives in greater Washington, I think they really potentially run a risk of slowing this economic recovery that finally seems to be picking up speed," Senator Warner said.

Shutdown Showdown

Senator Warner was on the radio this morning across Virginia discussing the federal budget and the prospect of a government shutdown this Friday. “This is no way to run a railroad – or a government,” Senator Warner told Jimmy Barrett on WRVA’s Richmond Morning News.
