Senator Mark Warner successfully amended the Senate Republican budget today to encourage the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to more aggressively promote a veterans law clinic model developed at William & Mary’s Puller VA Clinic. The Puller Clinic assigns trained law students to help veterans with the toughest backlogged VA claims – for free. At Senator Warner’s urging, the VA adopted the Puller Clinic as a national pro bono model in the fall of 2013, and it’s now been duplicated at more than 40 law schools across the country. But Senator Warner says adding this language to the Senate Budget could expand this pro bono model more broadly – and provide this free legal assistance to even more veterans.
