Virginia has been awarded more than $26 million for three projects that will expand broadband access in rural areas. These projects will create at least 200 jobs in the near term, and build-out a high-speed Internet platform for additional economic activity in the future.

The grants will provide $10 million for the Mid-Atlantic Broadband cooperative in southeastern Virginia, $9 million for the Citizens’ Telephone Cooperative in the New River Valley and almost $7 million for the County of Rockbridge’s Rockbridge Broadband Initiative.

Senator Warner believes additional broadband helps level the playing field for rural communities.

“These grants represent a great investment that enhances access to online education and other public services, and helps local businesses compete across a global marketplace,” Senator Warner said.
