Today, Senator Mark Warner met with two outstanding Virginia students.

Ashante Gravley of Danville won first place in the Commonwealth for the 5^th grade “Tar Wars” poster contest. Tar Wars, an American Academy of Family Physicians program, promotes smoking education and prevention among youth.  Students submitted posters that encouraged kids to steer clear of smoking.

“It’s great to see young Virginians like Ashante stepping up to become tobacco-free advocates,” Senator Warner said.

Senator Warner also met with Emily Schaal, a recent graduate from Herndon High School. Emily is the state winner of the 27^th annual National Peace Essay Contest of the United States Institute of Peace. Emily’s winning essay earned her a $1,000 college scholarship. She will start as a freshman at the College of William and Mary in the fall.
