Senator Warner opened his remarks at today’s FedTalk gathering of hundreds of IT professionals at Washington’s Arena Stage by offering his congratulations: “Y’all have broken the code! The way to guarantee a politician’s attendance at your event is to encourage him to talk about his favorite subject – himself!”

The Senator talked about his background in telecom and IT, and how he has worked to apply technology to disrupt – in a good way – how government conducts its business.

“’What gets measured gets done’ is a concept every MBA student is familiar with. Maybe because I’ve spent more time in business than in politics, it’s a principle that has guided my work as an elected official and a manager in the public sector.”

Senator Warner talked about his successful efforts as Governor to bring smart business efficiencies to Virginia state government, and how that focus on performance metrics and transparency now informs his work in the U.S. Senate.

The Senator encouraged the audience to demand more bipartisan problem-solving from their elected officials, and made a pitch for the continuing need for a balanced plan to reduce the nation’s deficits and debt.
