Click here for more info on the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment ActThe Pentagon will release almost $330 million in funding for a series of robust infrastructure investments in Virginia's military installations from the economic recovery package.  

The projects are designed to create jobs for Virginians, repair aging infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and improve our nation’s military capability. 

Shovel-ready military construction projects (known as MILCON) will receive $83 million in economic recovery dollars, and restoration and sustainability projects will receive $245.5 million

Here are some highlights of the projects in Virginia:

  • $55.145M to modernize and repair medical facilities at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center and Langley Air Force Base to provide quality health care for our troops and their families; 
  • $43.605M for runway repairs at Naval Air Station Oceana and Naval Air Station Norfolk, and Naval Station Norfolk pier complex work to renovate aging infrastructure; 
  • $24.2M for Fort Eustis and Fort Belvoir child care centers to support military families; and 
  • $50.745M to install energy-efficient photovoltaic cells in the Hampton Roads and Norfolk area military facilities. 

Here is a project breakdown by installation:

  • Fort AP Hill: $3.77 million for 14 restoration projects 
  • Fort Belvoir: $46.232 million for 21 restoration and 2 MILCON projects 
  • Fort Eustis: $23.457 million for 19 restoration and 1 MILCON projects 
  • Fort Lee: $16.849 million for 11 restoration and 2 MILCON projects 
  • Fort Myer: $1.3 million for 2 restoration projects 
  • Fort Story: $2.827 million for 2 restoration projects 
  • Fort Pickett: $7.535 million for 3 restoration projects 
  • Radford Army Ammunition Plant: $1.685 million for 2 restoration and 1 MILCON projects
  • Naval Air Station Oceana: $27.045 million for 1 restoration and 1 MILCON project
  • Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek: $1.902 million for 1 restoration project
  • Naval Station Norfolk: $43.605 million for 3 restoration and 4 MILCON projects
  • Naval Support Activity Norfolk: $8.541 million for 1 restoration projects
  • Hampton Roads: $26.098 million for 1 MILCON project 
  • Naval Shipyard Norfolk: $3.357 million for 1 restoration and 1 MILCON project
  • Langley AFB: $60.222 million for 17 restoration projects 
  • NAVMEDCEN Portsmouth: $29 million for 1 restoration project
