Press Releases

WASHINGTON – Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) released the following statement on the news that Virginia will join 14 other states and the District of Columbia in filing an amicus brief advocating for recently announced federal immigration reforms:

“When the House of Representatives refused to act on the bipartisan, comprehensive reform package the Senate passed in 2013, the President took limited, appropriate steps to start fixing our broken immigration system. Similar executive action has been taken by every President in the past 60 years, but executive action is not permanent. That’s why Congress needs to act legislatively to provide the long-term certainty that our families, communities and country deserve. In the meantime, I applaud Attorney General Herring for moving to defend the protections that will be extended to undocumented immigrants in Virginia, who will be able to  come out of the shadows, support their families, pay taxes and contribute to our economy.”
