Warner, Kaine Announce More than $96,000 in HUD Funding to Help Fight Veterans' Homelessness in Harrisonburg
Nov 10 2015
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahead of Veteran’s Day tomorrow, U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced today that Harrisonburg, Virginia will receive a $96,700 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funding will be awarded to public housing agencies to provide affordable housing and rental assistance to homeless veterans.
“The brave men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform deserve to know that their country will take care of them when they return home,” Sen. Warner said. “This grant will help homeless veterans in Harrisonburg access safe, affordable housing.”
“The sacrifices of Virginia’s veterans and their families do not end once they return home. We owe them the best-quality care and support in their communities, and today’s funding will help provide safe and stable housing for Harrisonburg’s homeless veterans,” said Sen. Kaine.
Today’s funding was awarded through HUD’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program. The VASH program provides vouchers to communities with a high population of homeless veterans to support housing needs.
