Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner joined a bipartisan group of colleagues to introduce a resolution that calls for a Moment of Remembrance on September 11, 2011. Marking the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, the resolution calls on all Americans to pause at 1pm EST for a minute of reflection accompanied by bells and sirens across the country.

“The events of September 11th have left profound and indelible impressions upon all Americans,” said Senator Webb. “This is a proper way to commemorate the resolve that was demonstrated by the first responders and the compassion of a country drawn together on that day.”

“It is absolutely appropriate that we continue to honor the memories, the service and the sacrifice of the victims, survivors, first responders and their families on this tenth anniversary of 9/11,” Senator Warner said. “I am proud to join a bipartisan group of Senators in establishing a way for Virginians and Americans to come together as a nation for a moment of remembrance.”

The resolution recognizes the victims of the attacks, including the first responders and survivors, and expresses deep condolences for the lives lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, PA.

The ‘Moment of Remembrance’ is supported by Voices of September 11th, MyGoodDeed, and a consortium of 9/11 family groups. Cosponsors include: Senators Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Charles Schumer (D-NY), Kirstin Gillibrand (D-NY), Robert P. Casey, Jr. (D-PA), Pat Toomey (R-PA), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Joe Lieberman (I-CT).
