Senator Warner, co-chair of the Senate’s India Caucus, will lead a five-member congressional delegation on a visit to India between Jan. 7 and Jan. 14. The delegation will meet with top government and business leaders in New Dehli, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Kolkata, exploring opportunities to expand business, trade, defense and cultural relationships between the two countries.
Working to help victims of tainted drywall

“I’ve been involved in politics and government for 20 years, and I can’t think of a more frustrating issue that I’ve been involved with than this issue with drywall,” Senator Warner said at a Senate hearing on contaminated drywall this morning. Senator Warner, with Florida Senator Bill Nelson had called for the hearing today before the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Insurance.

Senator Warner appeared on CNN’s OutFront with Erin Burnett last night to discuss his ideas for strengthening the U.S. economy and spurring more job growth. The Senator cited the jobs and investment that could be created through expanded investments in infrastructure – both physical (roads, rail, bridges) and virtual (broadband, wireless spectrum).

Senator Warner joined bipartisan majorities in the Senate and the U.S. House in passing free-trade bills with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. The President sent the proposed trade deals to Congress last week.
A big congratulations is due to a team from Virginia Tech for landing top prize of EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge. It involved designing and building an extended-range electric vehicle. Tech competed against 15 other universities to earn top honors in the three-year competition sponsored by the Department of Energy and General Motors.

This morning Senator Warner traveled to Herndon to discuss trade opportunities with ambassador Demetrios Marantis, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, and more than 250 employees at Hewlett Packard. The Senator talked about the need to pass the pending trade agreements with Korea, Panama, and Colombia, and the growing importance of exports, as well as deficit reduction and tax reform.

Senators Warner and Webb today worked to promote airline safety by modernizing the Federal Aviation Administration’s outdated, radar-based air traffic control system. The Senators also blocked efforts to make large-scale changes that could have significantly overburdened flight operations at Reagan National Airport in Northern Virginia.
Celebrating India

This morning Senator Warner hosted a “Commonwealth Coffee” event for members of Virginia’s Indian-American community. Today’s event was held to honor Republic Day, which marks India’s adoption of a democratic constitution 62 years ago.
Yesterday, Senator Warner announced that he will join Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) as a co-chair of the Senate India Caucus in January. Senator Warner will take the place of Senator Chris Dodd, who is retiring at the end of the year.
