Joins Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee hearing to speak about 'Race to the Top' plan

In the wake of a new report dramatically highlighting America’s inefficient use of its energy resources, Sen. Warner joined the Senate’s Energy Committee to talk about his efforts to promote energy productivity.
I applaud the Supreme Court for striking down the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act. In line with the amicus brief I joined many of my colleagues in submitting to the Court, the Court’s majority properly concluded there is no legitimate purpose for according one marriage less respect and less dignity than another. Although I believe the Court could have gone further in affirming the principle of marriage equality in its two decisions today, this is a proud moment for everyone who believes in equal treatment under federal law.

Sen. Warner Spends the Day in Southside

Today Sen. Warner flew down to Southside Virginia to make stops in South Boston and Danville, where he met with constituents, toured local industry, and spoke about his work in Congress to promote small and startup businesses.
Last night Sen. Warner accepted the TechAmerica Foundation’s Legislator of the Year award at its 2013 Technology and Government Dinner. The annual award recognizes a member of Congress who has made outstanding contributions to U.S. innovation and technology.
Today the A Billion + Change organization, of which Sen. Warner serves as an honorary co-chair, celebrated a defining milestone – the largest commitment of pro bono service in history. The organization, which helps fund skill-based volunteer work to help address community priorities here in America and across the world, announced that more than 500 companies across the country have committed over $2 billion worth of volunteer services.
Some would argue that the best way to fix our broken immigration system is for Congress to take a piecemeal, fragmented approach. But the truth is, there are practical reasons why a comprehensive fix represents a more effective and practical solution to this large and complex problem.

Senator Warner attended a roundtable with several Senate colleagues for members of African-American media organizations today. The senators took questions from leading national and Capitol Hill-based reporters about how to increase economic opportunities for people of color.
Sen. Warner Meets with Southside Students

This morning Sen. Warner met with about 35 Virginians from Danville, Martinsville, and Pittsylvania Counties on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. These young men and women are participants in the Project Discovery college-access preparatory program, which helps potential first generation college attendees plan for their future while they’re still in high school.
