Virginia delegation urges the President to approve request for federal disaster assistance

All thirteen members of Virginia’s congressional delegation sent a bipartisan letter to President Obama today in support of Governor Bob McDonnell’s request for aid for counties affected by last week’s severe storms. Initial reports indicate that the storms took the lives of ten people, injured dozens, and destroyed over a thousand structures.
Senator Warner, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, issued the following statement on the death of Osama bin Laden: “I want to commend our military and intelligence professionals for the coordinated and painstaking work that was responsible for tracking down Osama bin Laden.

Tornados ripped through the South yesterday, causing hundreds of deaths and massive destruction in several different states, including Virginia. Areas hardest-hit by the storms include Goochland, Halifax, Shenandoah, Washington and other southwest Virginia counties.
We ended our trip last week on Thursday in Fredericksburg, where Senator Warner held a town hall meeting with employees of the new Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. Then we stopped by the University of Mary Washington's Annual Devil-Goat Day.
On the Road: Visting the Tides

Last night, Senator Warner had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at the Norfolk Tides minor league baseball game. Afterwards, the Senator dropped in the broadcast booth, where he caught up with ESPN's Bob Socci, who was calling the game.
Senator Warner returned to the Virginia Modeling & Simulation Center campus in Suffolk today to discuss opportunities to build-out the region's mod/sim capabilities.
On the Road: Preserving Fort Monroe

Senator Warner, Congressman Bobby Scott, and Hampton Mayor Molly Ward toured Fort Monroe with several local historians and discussed ways to preserve its rich history when the U.S. Army leaves as part of the base realignment process.
We started off this morning by traveling to the Town of West Point, about half-way between Richmond and Williamsburg on the Middle Peninsula, where Senator Warner met with elected and community leaders from six counties and three towns in the region.
