With all of the recent attention on the federal budget, the Senate Budget Committee today held a hearing on ways to reform and improve the budget process. Senator Warner urged consideration of a two-year budget cycle – the same process used in Virginia and many other states.
We need to make new investments in our nation’s roads, bridges, transit, and air transportation networks to connect our people and our businesses. That’s what The BUILD Act will do, and Senator Warner is an original co-sponsor of this bipartisan infrastructure bank proposal along with Sens. John Kerry and Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Senator Warner says he will champion increased access to capital and greater federal contracting opportunities for Latino-owned businesses. The Senator spoke at a Latino Business Summit on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
In a step forward for high-speed passenger rail, the U.S. Department of Transportation today set aside $44.3 million toward the development of a rail corridor linking Richmond and Washington, DC. The grant will help Virginia prepare for potential rail construction by starting environmental and engineering analyses.
Senator Warner helped cut the ribbon on defense contractor Northrop Grumman’s new Fairfax headquarters. After a countrywide search, Northrop Grumman, a Fortune 100 company, relocated its corporate headquarters to Virginia from California, bringing with it 500 jobs for the Commonwealth.
The White House has nominated Maurice Jones, the publisher of the Norfolk, Virginia Virginian-Pilot, to become deputy secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Jones, 47, has been publisher of The Pilot since mid-2008, and he previously served as a top adviser to Senator Warner when he was Virginia’s governor.
Senator Warner and Rep. Bobby Scott hosted a Commonwealth Coffee for Virginians today who are in town to attend the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Convention. The Senator, Rep. Scott and our staff from across the Commonwealth mingled and chatted with more than 220 Virginians over donuts and coffee.
