Senator Warner released the following statement after the President’s speech about jobs last night: “I think the President issued the right call to action,” Senator Warner said. “There is no single 'silver bullet' solution to this sluggish economic recovery, but we certainly can take smart, targeted actions that will help encourage new jobs and investment."

Recess Wrap-up

Last week Senator Warner wrapped up a 3 week roadtrip that included 45 events, visiting 34 communities and traveling more than 1,300 miles across the Commonwealth.
Day three in the Commonwealth began at Common Grounds, a local coffee shop in South Boston. Senator Warner spoke to members of the community about his work on a bipartisan effort to tackle the deficit. The Senator also talked about the resilience and courage of people in South Boston and Southside Virginia.
Senator Warner joined Sens. Jim Webb, Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski of Maryland, and Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez of New Jersey urging leaders of the House and Senate to extend the current FAA authorization bill. An unresolved policy dispute between the House and Senate blocked passage of the bill before Congress recessed earlier this week, forcing the FAA to furlough 4,000 workers without pay.
Warner, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, has argued for a comprehensive approach to tackling the country’s deficit and debt problem and said the compromise passed today is not a long-term solution. The former Virginia governor is a key member of the Senate’s bipartisan “Gang of Six” that produced a framework for cutting the deficit by $3.7 trillion over 10 years through spending cuts, entitlement reforms and tax reforms.
