U.S. Senator Mark R. Warner (D-VA) today cosponsored SB 1174 awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to the 65th Infantry Regiment, or “Borinqueneers,” a unit comprised of soldiers from Puerto Rico that was the U.S. military’s last Hispanic segregated unit. The legislation currently has 30 Senate sponsors: 20 Democrats and 10 Republicans.

U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA), chairman of the Senate Banking Committee’s National Security and International Trade and Finance Subcommittee, will lead a hearing on Monday, Feb. 3rd on ways to better safeguard consumers’ financial data. This will be the first congressional hearing held in the wake of the high-profile credit and debit card data breaches involving retail giant Target and others.
Senator Mark R. Warner and Senator Tim Kaine joined Representative Jim Moran to write to the Air Force Materiel Commander, General Janet C. Wolfenbarger questioning the Air Force’s plans to relocate the Office of Scientific Research from its current site in Arlington to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) joined Sens. Michael Bennet (D-CO)and Roy Blunt (R-MO) in introducing a bipartisan bill to jumpstart our nation’s capability to build and repair roads, bridges, highways, ports, schools, and other infrastructure projects.

Sen. Warner announced today that volunteer emergency service workers will not be required to be counted as full-time equivalent employees for purposes of healthcare coverage, which could have gutted the ranks of emergency first responders across the country. In a response to a letter that Sen. Warner sent in December, the U.S. Department of Treasury and Internal Revenue Service agreed to exempt volunteer emergency responders from the healthcare mandate.

Following a holiday season in which a record number of consumers were expected to use prepaid cards, U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) introduced legislation requiring banks to more fully disclose the hidden fees often charged for the use of these cards. Issuers of prepaid cards currently are not required to provide the same level of consumer information and disclosure required of most other gift cards and credit cards.
